Wrinkle-Free Shirts: Is it hot in here or is it me?
Arrrgghhh! I'm dying today! And I think it's because of my new shirt.
I was at the Macy's One Day Sale over the weekend and I picked up a couple of Claiborne wrinkle-free cotton dress shirts. I don't have any other wrinkle-free items currently and I was trying to remember if I had any prejudices against them. I think my prior experience led to skepticism because they still wrinkled. "No big deal," I thought--I iron all my dress shirts anyway.
Now, I remember why I never liked wrinkle-free. These shirts do not seem to breathe! I'm at work right now and I might as well be at a sauna. I checked the thermostat--it's normal. I only had one cup of lukewarm tea. I didn't eat any five-alarm chili in the last 24 hours. It's got to be the shirt (or, more accurately, the chemical coating on the shirt to supposedly keep it from wrinkling).
Is it the shirt or is it me? With repeated washings, will the wrinkle-free coating start to dissipate and will the shirt start to breathe a little? The shirt is actually quite nice and I've already gotten one compliment.
Thankfully, the shirts were very inexpensive, so if I give them away tomorrow, I won't cry. In fact, with the sale, the price was so low that the snob in me actually thought that I was too good to wear them!

I hate 'em for the same reason. Plus, the blue ones all tend to get dark stains around the inside edge of the collar, for some reason, within the first few months of use. I've never had that problem with the "regular" kind.

Just wait. The BB non-iron shirts wear out after about 30 washings. That's for pinpoint. Broadcloth is even worse. Fortunately, you'll be happy to part with it prior to then.

You're not alone, even on a cool day a non-iron shirt is too hot for me. I say, stick w/ all cotton from here on out.

oh YES the non-iron shirts are hot. I have worn non non-iron shirts for years and have never had "overheating" problems with any shirt I wore, no matter what the weather was like. However, after getting a hand full of BB non-iron shirts in the same shades as some of the non non-iron shirts I have, I can tell one hour into wearing whether or not I have a non-iron shirt on.
Wearing a non-iron shirt is like wearing an ordinary shirt with the breathability of a lead apron.
