I would never dare to buy clothing for my (very, very, very particular and discriminating) wife!

That said, it's hard *not* to find something worthwhile at Ralph Lauren (dot com).

Neither would I. I am just supplying the plastic in the transaction.

But a few recommendations from discerning gentlemen would not go astray.

I got my wife a Burberry coat a few years back but at a store, with gift receipt, for exchange or fitting.

It worked out well!!

While I am not sure I would want to buy a gift of clothing, in the blind, for my lovely wife, I have on several occassions taken her on shopping excursions to refresh her wardrobe and enjoyed the pleasure of having her model her selected ensembles for my benefit, prior to making the purchase. Following up such an exercise with a nice romantic dinner out, can make for a very memorable event!

The only "clothing" articles I buy for my wife come from the lingerie selection.

But, I have to have something else, also, because she somehow views that as more or less a selfish gift.

LOL! Our ladies can be so shallow, in their perspectives on a gift! It is after-all, the thought that counts.

The Northern and Southern Hemispheres rarely agree on the season.

Paraphrasing from the movie Cool Hand Luke, "What we have heah...is a man with a great health insurance policy!"

Some years back, mine, as that special present, wanted, some say not surprisingly, a divorce. It was the most expensive Christmas present I ever bought myself.

Default Last year's gift..

A friend of mine told me he is no longer getting his wife gifts for any occasion! His rationale: The gift he got for her last Christmas remains unused. It was a cemetery plot.

I gave my girlfriend last year an iPhone, everybody said it was probably the nicest gift in our group of friends and yet she found a negative argument for it: "what do I receive from you? a phone!, what will be later, a tracking device? why don't you just let me be", that was after she showed up late for new year's eve....

Later I decided to pay attention to her while reading fashion magazines or walking in the mall, if she said she liked something, I just remembered it and bought it for the special occasion... you know what the argument was after I did that for the first time? "You don't spend a milligram of your creativity to decide what to give me..."

Fortunately I broke up with her couple of months ago, can you imagine if I married her?

Anyway, electronic gadgets, believe it or not, are almost always well received by women in general, they look expensive and complex, you can add them pictures or music giving them a personal touch as well. I gave my mom, who has problems even operating the microwave oven, an Ipod touch with her favorite music and an album with over a thousand family pictures, and believe it or not, she now can operate it like a pro, and she's 58!
