Auxilry Interchangeable Shirt Buttons are a unique player in the men’s shirting market. They seek to make something ordinary and forgettable-the shirt button- into something of an eye-catching and original accessory.
In the article, we review the story behind Auxilry, the application process, and show you a finished product.
The Auxilry Story
Auxilry is the brainchild of Anibal Marin, a fashion and product designer with over 15 years of experience in the menswear space. His love of menswear led him to acquire a considerable collection of shirts.
However, the sewn buttons on the shirts had a nasty habit of loosening over time or snagging on sweaters, jacket sleeves, or other articles of clothing. This loosening caused them to fall off in the wash or become lost easily. Or, the cheap plastic would simply break.
Replacing them was often costly to do in bulk. It seems Anibal isn’t alone in this – we’ve got a discussion on our forum about it.
Additionally, the buttons were often the least-considered part of the shirt. A shirt could be made with fabulous Giza 45 cotton, but held together with boring, standard white shirt buttons.
There had to be a better way to keep shirt buttons on and make them stylish as well. The answer became Auxilry.
How Auxilry Works
Auxilry are “non-sew” interchangeable shirt buttons. They attach on in place of your original shirt buttons in a unique way. We’re going to work you through that process below.
Remove the ‘stock’ buttons that come with your shirt. You won’t be needing them anymore! Auxilry includes the little tool needed to do this.
Use the awl (also included) to punch a small hole around where your buttons used to be. Don’t worry; the holes are almost unnoticeable!
Tip: DO align with your old buttonholes to ensure even spacing.
Push the fastener gently through the backside of the shirt and through the two holes you just made.
Line up your button base holes with the tips from the fastener, just as we’ve done above.
Using the attached pressure cap, *snap* the fastener from the back to the button base hole in the front. This base isn’t going to move- you’ll only switch the interchangeable buttons.
Align the Auxilry interchangeable button of your choice. This is the fun part; they’ve got so many different styles and colors to choose from!
Twist the interchangeable button into place, and go ahead and wear your shirt with pride!
So, How Does it Look?
It takes a little effort to look effortless, but in this case of Auxilry we think it’s well worth it!
What results is an entirely unique shirt like nothing else on the market today.
Here, we’ve taken a relatively standard gingham shirt from a major retailer, and kicked it up a notch. The gunmetal pops, but doesn’t shout. The buttons are substantial and few cool to the touch when rolled between the fingers.
Auxilry is providing value to the market by solving a perennial problem. As long as there are sewn buttons, they will loosen and they will get lost. This will be the case on a $30.00 shirt or a $300.00 shirt.
However, Auxilry is taking this a step in the right direction.
In the future, we look forward to seeing design in different colorways and more classic combinations like horn or mother-of-pearl. We also look forward to the technology continuing to shrink, leading to ease of buttoning.
We hope you’ve found this review helpful and hope you’ll give Auxilry a try!
