That secular commercial character is the very real and historical Saint Nicholas of Smyrna in Anatolia ( Turkey.) known for his love of children.

Howard, when the food is put out, EVERYBODY is jewish.
When the food was gone, only my aunt Yola was ( I did help with the dishes.)
DON'T LET THE LIGHTS GO OUT!-- The Weavers ( those nasty 'commie' folksingers)
Howard, 5 generations back, matrilinear I have a female ancestor who fled some pogrom and wound up in the safe and sane bosum of a family of irish revolutionaries. There is in fact, a small village just south of the border with Ulster still predomoinantly jewish with a bunch of CohAns; known for being fierce fighters and to stubborn to secede and increase Israel's territories ( in spite of pleas from the local Gardai .) When my cousin converted the rebi did a thorough geneological search and told her A. she was indeed a Rothschild and B.The fee had to be adjusted. Then my Aunt Yola said that was trefe, she wasn't sure reformed jews counted anyway, her conservative Temple was cheaper and she could get the wine wholesale.
So yes, it pays to diversify your extended family; jews, american indians, and a black family with our surname we decided were fun people to hang with, so why not?
