I recently picked up a mask from English American Tailors and they threw in a new suit. Or was it the other way around.

The suit is a 3 roll new in a dark brown flannel (even though in the photo it looks looks gray on my monitor. It's as 130's fabric in the 12 oz. range.

Also recently purchased a pair of AE Bartlett's on sale for less than the cost of the Strand.

Just trying to do my part to get the economy going. I expect to get back to work once the tax season begins even though it will look different than most years.

Your suit looks undarted, but there appears to be padding in the shoulder. Did you have to request a 3r2 sack cut, or were they familiar ? Did you specify the fit (trim, roomy etc) ?

Did you handle most details from your location, or did you stop in while in the Baltimore area ?

May ask the approximate cost for a custom suit ?

Thank you !

The shoulder padding is about the same as found in my Southwick and vintage Brooks Brothers sack suits, which is to say it's minimal. To the best of my knowledge the only suit coat completely without shoulder padding is the Neopolitan Shoulder which is quite different than TNSIL.

The 3/2 sack cut is one of the standard models English American Tailors offer but it's something you need to specifically request. I bought this suit from a retailer that I've been using since the early 1980's. They have my measurements on file and just throw a tape on you to see if there have been any significant changes. Once the sizing is verified and all the details noted, the order is sent to English America for the actual cutting and sewing.

Regarding pricing, it's important to note, this suit is made to measure and not true bespoke. However, in both approaches the pricing is determined by the fabric selected. This fabric happens to be a Loro Piana which is the most expensive I've ever purchased. With a 20% discount, the suit cost roughly 40% more than the 1600 I would normally pay.
