My name is David Austen. I am the chairman of Jermyn Street Guild. I founded Austen Brothers over two decades ago with my brother and retailed shirts for many years into the Australian marketplace under the Austen Brothers label. We no longer own the Austen Brothers business.
Through Jermyn Street Guild however, we are now offering the same quality shirts we originally offered through Austen Brothers over 20 years ago. If you are familiar with the original Austen Brothers’ shirts, JSG’s shirts provide the same renowned quality and fit but made with superior fabrics and construction techniques.
JSG’s shirts are made with unfused collars and cuffs using Permess interlinings. Permess non-fusible interlinings are still being made in Europe and the use of which still represents the only way to make an authentic Jermyn Street collar. Before the arrival of the mass marketeers into Jermyn Street in the 1990’s, a majority of Jermyn Street shirtmakers were using Permess non-fusible interlinings. Sadly, most are now made using fusible interlinings made in China, including the large American brands mentioned in this forum. These shirts are being made by two large Hong Kong garment vendors in factories located in the north of Vietnam.
JSG offers something different – original quality, old Jermyn Street shirts – supplied exclusively to our customers direct from our own factory in Ho Chi Minh City – the same factory that made Austen Brothers’ shirts from the very beginning over 20 years ago. The JSG shirts are made using the original Jermyn Street construction methods of the old Jermyn Street tailors, made using superfine, high-density, pure cotton fabrics and offered in shirt fits made famous in Australia by Austen Brothers. The Jermyn Street Guild factory is one of the few remaining in the world that has the expertise and skill to make an authentic old Jermyn Street London shirt to proper standards.
You can send us a shirt to copy for detail and measurements and we will make a specific pattern for you. We make a new pattern for each order regardless if any alterations are required to our standard patterns. The cost of a new pattern has already been incorporated into the shirt prices we offer. For this process, we recommend you order one shirt initially to confirm a correct pattern. We will return your shirt sample to you with your JSG shirt order.
