I ruined a tie the other day, hazard of my working envoirnment, happens. In my haste to buy a cheapie beater tie to replace it on E bay. I scored a Canali that looked like it may do the job.

The tie arrived and has gone back to the seller!!

Some pix for your consideration. You may wish to consider not using a new E bay tie seller in Texas!

The Yellow Canali tie is from Harry Rosen in Montreal.
The burgundy tie is from a new seller on E bay.

Note the way the silk is woven where the name Canali is embroidered.

The stay is made from silk, in a full loop, folded and sewn to the tie.

The stitch linking the two sides:

There is no question,
the red tie is NOT made by Canali.
I would hazard a guess that the seller's Boss, DG. Zegna are all coming out of the same source,
probably in Asia.

There is no fabric tag, no Made in XX tag.

Thank you for taking the time to post pics. It's obviously a fake Canali. Please post the seller's eBay ID so everyone knows to avoid him/her.

Is Canali getting that well known now to the masses that it is now under threat of appearing everywere as FAKE items. Start with ties and then onto shirts and then suits and then it doesn't stop. Canali - Buyer be ware?

She is selling about 20 ties a week, of mixed "designer brands".
Average 50 bucks a tie or so, on a tie that cost maybe 5 dollars.
She has a good little side line going on.
Everyone knows certain brands, like Boss and Hermes and high fake risk on E bay, why not move to a safer label.
All I know is that red tie is not a Canali.

99% of luxury goods on Enay and the internet are fake!

Caveat emptor! People are so naive and sometimes have that "cheap" mentality. I would not buy most designer things on the net. Even though the seller will swear up and down that it is real NWT .All Bullshit!

p.s. even if they have 100% feedback they could be scammers!

We can't all have a store called "Bling Bling" that advertises its crap on a Montreal classifieds website.

Glad this one came back up, save for the spamming,

The seller has refused to honor her full refund policy, does not answer e mails,
She has 106 sales and only one other negative feedback.
I reported them to E bay....but we all know where that will lead.

I bought some Barba ties from Ian as my beater for 69.00
A much better option than risking new sellers!!

ZegnaMTL,

I have learned from a couple of posts here that paying through Paypal is your least safe way to pay. It is better to pay via credit card through paypal.

When the confirmation screen comes up in Paypal, there is a button that says something like "Payment Options". The Paypal default is 1) funds in your account, 2) confirmed bank account, 3) Credit Card.

I always force the money to come out of my credit card now. Your cc company will give you much more satisfaction than Paypal will.

Update

This woman has now sold over 300 ties, E bay and Paypal could care a less that they are fakes.

Someone had once suggested reporting the seller to the Attorney General for mail fraud.
I am willing to buy a second tie and do this if it stands a chance of shutting her down since E bay clearly just wants the commissions.

Has anyone ever done this or would I wasting my time on that front too??

Thank you,

For all of those who are not familiar, what were the clear signs that the ties were not genuine? What does Canali traditionally do?

I also don't see any clear signs that it's a fake.
I have 2 Canali ties, one of which I an wearing today, coincidentaly, both about 5/6 years old, bought from a Canali stockist (i.e. not e-bay) and the details are more like the one refered to here as a fake. The only thing that strikes me as strange is the missing care instructions, but it looks as if that may have been cut out, for whatever reason.

Don't forget, Canali probably buys ties in from various factories and the details may well differ from one to the other.

Regards

Rob

The red tie is as fake as they can come, a 5 dollar cheapie using bad fabric and even worse workmanship.

Look at the tie stay on the back side, look at way the cheap sponge liner sticks out of the fabric, there is no fabric tag, a legal requirement in most countries and feature on all Canali ties. Regardless who Canali would ever dream of jobbing out too, they would never try to sell a tie that bad. Take a close look at the way the name is embroidered on the darker fabric. It is all wrong, I have several real Canali ties, the red one is not even close.

Maybe she is trying to unload the merch before she gets shut down?

I think the companies (Canali, Zegna, Dunhill, Fendi et. al) themselves would like to know about the fakes, and would probably force eBay to take away her account.

BTW she's taken to selling them in lots of four for $60 now...
