Do as I do, use fill magnum loads of "double ought" buckshot (about 6, or so, .30 caliber pellets, per case!), to fully pulverize the pigeon. As the clay is lighter than the binding ingredients (muddy water), simply pick up the particles further out on the range. Bake in a 350 degree oven for 30 minutes, or until an interior temperature of 175 degrees is met.
