Leather Dress Belt with a Brass Buckle (see photo) -- What About Real Gold?

The chance anyone can tell solid gold from well-polished yellow brass is next to nil. They both can hold up your pants, and brass might last longer.

Navy bucks or walnut cap-toe balmoral oxfords with grey seersucker?

I think blue suede is heavily underrated. Tan leather, on the other hand, is heavily overrated, worn by the slim fit crowd with dark suits (horrible all around).

MTM Suit Quality Question -- Ordinary Wear & Tear or Garbage Quality?

There's no magic. It all comes down to the person measuring you, the person cutting the fabric, and the person(s) sewing the pieces together. With so much out of the customer's control, the key is to find someone you trust to take your measurements, and who you trust has a capable team standing...

MTM Suit Quality Question -- Ordinary Wear & Tear or Garbage Quality?

The key is to find a reputable maker, whether it's MTM or bespoke. Most online outfits (and Indochino), sadly are not that. I have very little to disagree with the quotes re tight inseam. The question is, Did you ask for "form fitting" pants or did they measure you for form fitting?

Trump's White-Tie Outfit: Style Hit or Miss?

The straw man only exists in the mock trial of your imagination, counselor. It seems you agree a well-fitting suit can ameliorate, but not conceal, corpulence. Trump (I posit) wants the latter not the former. I believe I originally answered a post not by you questioning why a man of Trump's...

Trump's White-Tie Outfit: Style Hit or Miss?

A portly man can definitely have a well-fitting suit, but that suit will not completely hide his large paunch. Call it Trump's delusion or whatever, but he wants to look like Liam Hemsworth when he's a lot closer to Chris Christie. And no well-fitting suit can achieve that. Here's an idea of...

MTM Suit Quality Question -- Ordinary Wear & Tear or Garbage Quality?

In short, garbage. You usually get what you paid for in tailoring.

Trump's White-Tie Outfit: Style Hit or Miss?

There's a blog post by a tailor explaining why Trump's suits fit the way they do. Basically, tailoring can accentuate the positives, but cannot create a new physique (pun) out of whole cloth. So if his waist is drastically bigger than his shoulders (a likely supposition), then nothing can hide...

Trump's White-Tie Outfit: Style Hit or Miss?

People can decide to care or not care; no one is thought police. Usually people who don't care don't comment. You responded to my post, then I responded, pretty simple.

Trump's White-Tie Outfit: Style Hit or Miss?

Well, I think Trump's vanity does extend to appearance (why does he call a lot of people "little" or "short"?). Why does he monogram "45" on his French cuffs? There's a story from the 90s he wore a cashmere sweater to a photoshoot, at some point the photographer wanted shots without the sweater...

Trump's White-Tie Outfit: Style Hit or Miss?

Left or right, I think we can all agree on these facts. Trump is vain: he cares very much how he looks. Trump can be lazy and careless; he doesn't always plan ahead. Trump has gotten fatter since November 2016. So my guess is he either no longer fits into the (well-fitting) tailcoat/vest he...

    Slim fit polo shirts. Suggestions?

I received a Spier & Mackay polo. Color and fabric are nice (supposedly Egyptian cotton). But the stitching quality is very poor. Loose threads everywhere, missed stitches on the collar, etc. From the bits of fabric that has unravelled, I can tell they use single-ply yarn.

    Sleeves and weaves

Sorry to resurrect such an old thread, but I'm just wondering if BB has changed their Made-in-Malaysia pinpoint and end-on-end shirts. The end-on-end light blue Malaysia button down shirt from 5 years ago is fused on the collar, cuffs, and placket. But it does pucker at the seams. Now I see the...

Summer Casual Shirts: Madras, Seersucker, Linen

Ye Olde Brooks Brothers has sport shirts in all the fabrics you're interested in, in SML sizing with 3 fits. I want to know if anyone has a seersucker BB shirt they bought in the recent past. The website shows they are "Made in China". I know the Made in Malaysia shirts are all fused in the...

Is this a variation of a sack suit?

Or why not write to Mr. Marlow directly? I doubt you'll get far with grainy photos, even if you convene a forum of bespoke tailors.

    Sock color/pattern recommendation

You are being too dogmatic for your own good. Take it from me that dark navy socks will work with any business formal color. Or you could always have the socks matching your pants; just don't get anal over finding the exact match. Ultimately it's a question of whether to draw attention to your...

    Sock color/pattern recommendation

Navy socks work for practically every business outfit. The pattern looks fine to my eyes. Not to mention that Argyle socks are a quintessential part of "trad".

J.Press, Trad and the Color Black

On a recent trip to China, I observed the trend of skinny black suits among young Chinese males. This would explain why black is number one worldwide.

J.Press, Trad and the Color Black

Highly contextual. On campus, say in NH or ME, no black. With a job on Wall St or Madison Ave, black for business formal occasions. I think it's very much un-"trad" to have shoes clashing with the pants. Whether it's khaki pants with black shoes, or navy pants with orange tan shoes: shudder...
