Hello,

I found a nice dinner jacket at Charles Tyrwhitt; they claim the lapels are made of satin, but the fabric is subtly ribbed, which brings faille to mind. Could an expert advise on what this actually is please? Thank you.

It looks like grosgrain to me. I associate grosgrain more with peak lapels and satin with shawl collars.

Indeed, although I also have an old grosgrain favourbrook cummerbund which has more pronounced ribs, hence my suspicion it might be faille. This is shawl collar by the way - my highly personal inclination is against peak lapels

I can never remember if faille or grosgrain has the more pronounced ribbing. I guess I got it backward.
