I'm working on a costume and I need help. The costume I am working on is the uniform shirt from the Star Trek episode "The Cage." I'm having trouble identifying the type of knit that forms the collar. I've asked a fabric store, but all they could tell me was that it was a "wide, ribbed knit." I have also checked with the 1701st, but even they don't know. I've uploaded some pics of the collar if it helps. I was hoping there were some knit or fabric experts here who could point in the right direction. Links would be much appreciated.

Unfortunately my *ahem* studies have tended to be concentrated upon the uniform worn by Seven of Nine (Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix Zero One) for reasons that we need not expand upon here.

However, there are specialist costume companies who cater to the Trekkers - perhaps you could contact one of these?

Well it is ribbed. The question then becomes the fabric itself. I’m guessing some kind of cotton/poly blend so that it can retain its shape.

Well of course it's ribbed, but what kind? 1x1, 2x2, double, single, etc.?
