I got married (at my hometown's church in Italy) last February and I wore morning dress attire (with wing detachable collar shirt and ascot tie). The tailcoat was a Montague Burton from the 30s, trousers and waistcoat were bespoke made for me; the trousers had traditional fishtail back and the waistcoat was of proper length.

The ceremony was held at 11am and it was followed by lunch at 1.30pm. These are the traditional times for wedding ceremonies and reception in Italy - where lunch is considered the most important meal of the day.

But I agree that most people nowadays prefer afternoon ceremony and evening reception.
